The delightful St. Thomas-on-The Bourne Chuch once again played host to our summer concert on 18th July. A wonderful full audience, including the Mayor of Farnham, Councillor Graham White and the Mayoress, Mrs Judy White, were treated to a high quality performance by the choir and members of the choir as soloists or in a small group nicknamed the "Hash Tones". We were delighted with audience feedback that demonstrated that the musical development we have been through and contributed to us being awarded second place at the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival has continued. The Mayor described the concert as " a joyous evening demonstrating the control and power of a very special male voice choir" and many regular attendees labeled it as "the best yet".
In a mixed programme of styles we performed the four songs that got us the award in Cornwall, Pueri Hebraeorum, The Willow Tree, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, and Soon Ah Will Be Done. Other songs included "Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines", "Seventy-Six Trombones", "Down By The Sally Gardens", "The Miller of Dee", "Londonderry Air", "On The Street Where You Live", "Get Me To The Church On Time", " Morte Christe,", "Bring Him Home" and "Wellerman". In what has now become a standard part of our concerts for our "Choral Hug" we sang "My Lord What A 'Mornin". The Hash Tones group performed "Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel", "Were You There?", "Myfanwy" and "The Way You Look Tonight " and we were also treated to solos from Keith Owen ("Tell My Father"), Dave Sillett ("This Is The Moment"), and Roger Douglas ("Love Is A Many-Splendored Thing").
.An appeal by our supported charity for this concert, The Cheryl King Trust, was delivered in the concert and a retiring collection made on its behalf. This wonderful local charity funds music lessons for children and young people from low-income families across Surrey. Hopefully it contributes to the next generation of award winning musicians!
