Dear Supporters, it is exciting to bring to you good news!
Supposedly, an ancient Chinese curse is “May you live in interesting times”; this is inaccurate – it is an English curse. But I am proud to say, the choir IS living in interesting times. Last year, we recruited 15 or so new singers; we have repeated the event by inviting interested men to a “pizza and pint” at the Hogsback Brewery in April. We had a response of over 40 men, of which over 30 came to the “pizza & pint” event. So, we now expect over 20 new singers to join the merry throng. They are busy learning (as is the choir) 6 new songs to commit to memory. Thus, at our Summer Concert at St Thomas on the Bourne will feature a choir of, perhaps, 60 singers. We will fill that glorious church with sound! We will be using our own talent to provide solo spots.
We are also privileged to be raising money for the Sebastian Action Trust; a remarkable local charity that supports seriously ill children and their families through respite care, emotional support, and vital community services. Your attendance will help bring joy and comfort to families facing unimaginable challenges.
Please come and support the choir in its aims of providing enjoyable music, have fun singing, and raising money for deserving local charities.
In my last newsletter I said I hope that lady luck will continue to smile on the Hampshire and Surrey Hills Men’s Choir. I am pleased to report she has a very big GRIN!

The shoppers of Guildford were the latest to be treated to our sing-out performance on Saturday 22nd March. Included was our first performance of "The Wild Rover" and it went down a storm! We were promoting our "A Pizza, A Pie and A Song" taster evening at the Hogs Back Brewery on 16th April.
We were delighted to be asked to put on a "flash mob" style sing-out at the Farnham Beerex beer festival in the Farnham Maltings on 10th April. Great fun was had by all, a fabulous sound accompanied by some equally fabulous beer tasting. Of course we had to round off our sing-out with a great version of "The Wild Rover" - a special request of the organisers of the festival.
Taster evening at the Hogs Back Brewery was a major success
Following last year's success of our "A Pie, a Pint and a Song" taster evening for the Camberley area, this year we organised the "A Pizza, A Pint and a Song" taster evening for the Farnham district at the home of Surrey beer - the Hogs Back Brewery. Unsurprisingly it was an even greater success! We had a superb turnout with 32 men joining with the regular choir members in some workshops run by MD Philip Viveash-Brainch who put everyone through their paces. Around 20 of the new attendees have agreed to come along to a series of classes and rehearsals between now and our summer concert in June. We are sure many, if not all, of those will have so much fun that they become full members. The evening was a great success - with everyone enjoying the songs, the pizzas and the pints! Bob Milton was the lucky winner of a basket of Hogs Back goodies in the raffle, and even donated a bottle of his superb Abbot's Secret cider as another prize (I can confirm its quality as I won it!).
We were proud to have been asked by Rushmoor Borough Council to lead the singing at their first ever St.George's Day flag raising ceremony. Led by the mayor of Rushmoor, Cllr Mara Makunura, and leader of the council, Cllr Gareth Williams the service included a reading by the Mayor's Chaplain. Our contribution included I Vow To Me My Country, Jerusalem, God Save The King and leading the community singing of Land Of Hope And Glory, They'll Always Be An England and Rule Britannia. The chilly wind, grey skies and rain did not put a dampener on the ceremony or the singing! The attendees were also entertained by our old friends Cactus Brass, who were happy that we had an impromptu sing along with their renditions of English Country Garden and a Mary Poppins medley.
Announcing our Summer Concert in support of Sebastian's Action Trust
Hampshire and Surrey Hills Men’s Choir is delighted to announce that their summer concert will be performed at St Thomas-on-The Bourne in Farnham on 28th June. This Summer Concert, featuring show tunes, well-known ballads and songs, is in aid of the charity Sebastian’s Action Trust.
Sebastian’s Action Trust supports families of seriously ill children, offering emotional, practical, and social care through every stage of their journey. It offers respite breaks for families at their specialist centre in Hampshire where they can enjoy support and fun activities.
In April, the choir invited men interested in singing to a “taster” rehearsal with the added incentive of a free pint and lots of pizza at the Hogsback Brewery at Tongham. Consequently, over 15 new singers have joined the choir and are preparing for their debut performance at this summer’s concert.
Announcing the concert, choir Chairman, Peter Viveash, said “We are very excited about our concert in June. It is a great combination of new and established choir members, new songs, and all in support of a wonderful local charity.”
The Summer Concert is on Saturday 28th June at 7:30 p.m. at St Thomas-on-The Bourne Church, Frensham Road, Farnham GU9 8HA. Tickets for the concert are £16 from https://www.trybooking.com/uk/EVFE and can also be bought at the door subject to availability.

We are singing to support High Cross Church's "Raise The Roof" campaign.
High Cross Church and its prominent building has been a feature in Camberley for over 35 years. Sadly the roof has reached its limit and needs replacing. It wil be replaced with a new roof and solar panels.
